Obituary for Nancy Melnychuck

Nancy Melnychuck
Nancy Melnychuck (nee Simone) of Haddonfield, NJ died peacefully in her sleep at age 95, at home with family on October 27. Nancy was pre-deceased by her husband Joseph A. Melnychuck, Sr., her son Joseph A. Melnychuck, Jr. (Sandra) of Haddonfield, her daughter Carol Thomas (Larry) of Atchison, KS and her grandson Sean A. Mahoney of Sacramento, CA. She is survived by her daughter Mary Lola Meloni (Ferdinand); eight grandchildren, Leo Mahoney (Daniella) of Manassas, VA, Stephen Mahoney of Tennessee, Tracey Nuhn (Robert) of Deptford, NJ, Peter Melnychuck (Karri) of Gibbstown, NJ, Mia Grant (Sean) of Springfield, PA, Gina Faust (Frederick) and Ferdinand J. Meloni, Jr. (Julie) of Mickleton, NJ. She is survived by seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Nancy was born in Hazleton, a mining town in Luzerne County Pennsylvania to Rocco Simone and Angeline (nee Spadola), a first generation Italian American. She was raised in Camden, NJ the youngest of eight. Six of her siblings pre-deceased her, including Josephine Fulginiti, Rose DelGozzo, Angie Jiannetto, Dora Simone, Lucy Lapergola, Frank Simone and Rocco Simone. She is survived by her sister, Mildred George. Nancy married her husband, Al, in Camden, NJ. Together they raised their three children in the Cramer Hill section of Camden. In the late 1970s she moved to Haddonfield, NJ where she resided for 45 years. Nancy worked at RCA in Deptford, NJ performing book-keeping duties for 36 years. While working for RCA Nancy held leadership positions in the union and was well-respected by union members and RCA leadership alike. Nancy enjoyed trips to the Atlantic City casinos – her favorite game was craps. Later in life, Nancy became involved in playing bridge at the Jewish Community Center in Cherry Hill and after proving herself a serious player, earned an invitation to play bridge regularly with a group in Haddonfield, which she enjoyed for several years. She loved to travel and just a few of her favorite places over the years included Florida, Las Vegas (before and after the “new” strip) and Italy where she traveled multiple times. Nancy was a voracious reader and loved spending time with family. A private service, by invitation only, will be held at Smith Funeral Home in Mantua, NJ on November 6. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Interfaith Caregivers, P.O. Box 186, Haddonfield, NJ 08033. www.smithfhmantua.com
