Obituary for Shirley M. West

Shirley M.  West

Shirley M. West (nee Minke) age 93, of Vineland passed away on May 17, 2023, and was reunited with her late husband on their wedding anniversary. Born on May 6, 1930, in Ridley Park, PA to the late John Minke and Arlettia (nee Ruth), she graduated from Glen-Nor High School Class of 1948. Shirley married her husband Frederick on May 17, 1952, and raised their family in Wenonah and Friesburg, NJ. She was also a resident of Gloucester, NJ, West Virginia, and Delaware before moving back to NJ where she lived in Northfield and Mays Landing. Shirley worked in her father's grocery store in Wildwood during the 1930s and 1940s, and at The Curtis Publishing Company in Philadelphia. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and was a member of Church of the Incarnation in Mantua and St. Ann's in Elmer. She served on the Altar Rosary Society and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Ruritan Club and the Granny's Club. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, baking, sewing, crocheting, ceramics, cake decorating, living in West Virginia and being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.



Wife of the late Frederick G. West Sr. of 49 years, she will be greatly missed by her surviving children - Fred West Jr. (Trinidad), John West, Sandy Parker, Barbara Jeffries (Paul), grandchildren - Fred West III, Brad West, Juana West, Edward West, Megan West, Justin Murphy, George Parker III, Larissa Valver (Chris), and Mallory Parker, great grandchildren - George Parker IV, Kiera Parker, Savanna Valver, and a great granddaughter on the way, and many more extended family members and friends.



Family & Friends may visit from 9:30 am to 10:45 am on Wednesday, May 24th, at Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua, NJ where a funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Wenonah Cemetery. Memories & condolences can be shared at www.smithfhmantua.com.
