Obituary for Walter V. Olehnik

Walter V. Olehnik, age 91 originally of North Brunswick, passed away on January 24, 2013 at his current home in Carney’s Point, NJ.

Mr. Olehnik was educated in the New Brunswick school system and graduated from the US Merchant Marine Academy in 1942. He was then commissioned into the Naval Reserve as an Ensign. He served as ship’s engineer aboard the USS Shasta which was involved in five major Pacific Fleet operations. After his service he became a civilian employee at Raritan Arsenal in Edison, NJ and at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, NJ. He retired from his position as Chief Logistics Office after more than 30 years of service to the country as a commissioned officer and civilian employee.

In 1948 he married Helen Erdos of New Brunswick and they enjoyed 64 years of life together.
He is survived by his wife Helen, their two children, Ellen (Ron) Elliott of Swedesboro, NJ and Kevin (Sue) Olehnik of Rockport, Maine as well as four grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
