Michael Smalley

Cousin Bobby and Walter, and your families, please accept my deepest condolences on the recent passing of your Mom, my Aunt Mary.To me and my late wife, Lisa, Aunt Mary was a beacon of light at a very trying time in our lives. When Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was Aunt Mary who we relied on to point us in the right direction for advice about doctors, but more importantly, to add calm to a very trying time in our lives. Because of Aunt Mary's strong religious belief, she was able to be a calming force through man6y follow up phone calls to her, when things weren't going well. Aunt Mary had a way of calming our souls, and making us feel better once we had spoken with her. My memories of my childhood and teen years spent at Uncle Walt and Aunt Mary's pool parties are wonderful as well. The parties that were held on Purdue Ave were special times of gathering that brought together 3 or 4 generations of family, where everyone caught up on the goings on in each other's lives. It was a tradition that seems to have waned over the years, that I think should be brought back. They were such nice get-togethers. In the trying times that we are currently going through, with "social separation", those gatherings take on a whole new special meaning, and I am happy to have been a part of them, and the joy that Uncle Walt and Aunt Mary brought to our family. Aunt Mary will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure to have known her. She was an incredible woman, who, I'm sure, quickly found her rightful place in Heaven. Nephew, Mike Smalley
