In September of 1998, a couple of my buddies and I were on a baseball vacation in the northeast, 6 ballparks in 7 days. I let Grandma know we'd be driving right by Mantua on our way from Baltimore to New York, and she insisted we stay the night (never mind Hector and Al being complete strangers to her). We all watched SportsCenter that night and learned that Cal Ripken, Jr. had not played that day, thus ending his ironman streak. The three of us were bummed that we had missed the big event by one day, but Evelen pointed out that while those fans got to see him NOT play, we still held ticket stubs to game #2632. I still treasure that little piece of paper. It's one of my favorite baseball memories, and one of my favorite of her.
